He teamed up with Amber Brkich at this location, winning the season. At the end of the season, Mariano popped the question to Amber. Russell Hantz was Mariano’s rival on Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains, when he belonged to the Villain tribe. After losing to Hantz, Mariano was eliminated at the end of the season.

The finale, Survivor: Winners at War, pitted him against 19 other competitors, including his wife Brkich. Unfortunately, he was the sixth contestant to be removed, giving Tony Vlachos the chance to receive the winning vote.
