Rob began his professional career soon after graduating from university in 2002. He competed in the 1999 US Amateur at Pebble Beach in California. He won the Massachusetts Amateur in 2002. Oppenheim began his professional career on the Canadian Tour, the Cleveland Tour, the Hooter’s Winter Series, and the Moonlight Tour. Rob qualified for the PGA Tour after finishing second on the Canadian Tour Order of Merit/Money list in 2006.

Oppenheim debuted on the PGA Tour in 2007, but was unable to maintain his form and was forced to compete on the Web.com Tour until 2014. He returned to the PGA Tour in 2015 and has been competing ever since. Rob won the Air Capital Classic the same year.
