Robert Gérard Goulet, an actor and singer, was born on November 26, 1933, in Lawrence, Massachusetts, USA. He was the son of Georges Andre Goulet and Jeanette Gauthier Goulet. Claire Goulet was his sister. His parents both worked in mills, and his father was also an amateur singer and wrestler.

Goulet’s father died while he was only thirteen years old. Following the incident, he and his mother, along with his sister Claire, relocated to Girouxville, Alberta, where he spent the rest of his adolescence. After a few years, they moved to Edmonton, where he studied voice and later worked as a radio announcer for CKUA.

On September 30, 2007, Goulet was admitted to a hospital in Las Vegas and diagnosed with deadly idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a rare and quickly deteriorating illness. On October 13, it was determined that he would not live without an emergency lung transplant, therefore he was moved to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
