Ryan Curran Arcidiacono, better known as Ryan Arcidiacono, is an NBA basketball player who is Italian-American. He most recently played in the NBA G League for the Maine Celtics. Ryan Arcidiacono was a member of the Villanova Wildcats during his college basketball career. He received numerous awards while there, in addition to contributing significantly to his team, including helping them to the 2016 NCAA Championship.

While still a child, he attended a basketball camp and played well for his high school team.

Jay Wright, the then-head coach of Villanova, was so impressed by his mastery at such a young age that he joked that he would play for Villanova one day.

Arcidiacono joined Villanova University after graduating from high school and went on to play for the Wildcats, proving the coach correct.

Career of Ryan Arcidiacono

High School

Ryan was a member of the Neshaminy High School football team until 2012. Jerry Devine, his high school coach at the time, quickly noticed his potential and assisted him in honing his skills.

The youthful athlete guided the team to the PIAA Class AAAA tournament as a sophomore. In the tournament, he averaged 18 points per game and earned a spot on the Class AAAA second team.

He also went to North Carolina to compete in the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions. Unfortunately, he sustained a serious facial injury in the tournament’s first game, necessitating stitches.

He did, however, defy the doctor’s advise and return to court. As a result, he appeared in numerous other games during the tournament. Surprisingly, despite the injury, his stats were excellent.

In his junior year, he maintained his top-class performance throughout the season. However, he was unable to escape injuries, which caused him to slow down.

His final year of high school was the most memorable of his life. He suffered a back ailment shortly after his junior season and only just recovered.

In addition, he was diagnosed with a herniated disk in his back and missed the entirety of his senior year.

He did, however, finish high school as the all-time highest scorer. He was also rated one of the best 50 seniors in the country by ESPN.

Career in College

Ryan Arcidiacono joined the Villanova Wildcats shortly after graduating from high school. He was still recovering from his injury, but he made his debut against the University of the District of Columbia, scoring 11 points.

He then went on to score 25 points against Marshall in the following game. After Scottie Reynolds in his rookie year, he became the second player to score this many points.

Ryan led his team to the NCAA tournament later that year, but despite an outstanding performance, the Wildcats were unable to bring home a trophy.

He averaged 11.9 points, 3.5 assists, and 2.1 rebounds per game at this tournament last season.

In the second season, he regained his health and performed admirably. He averaged 9.9 points, 3.5 assists, and 2.4 rebounds per game as a sophomore.

Arcidiacono had a terrific year as a junior, despite various injuries, including a blow to the nose from a Seton Hall player. He recovered quickly, however, and finished the season with his squad.

Ryan was named to the Oscar Robertson Award preseason watchlist during his senior year of college. He was also recognized as one of the 10 contenders for the Senior CLASS Award.

In his final season of college basketball, he averaged 12.5 points and 4.2 rebounds per game.

Professional Career

Ryan was unfortunately undrafted in the 2016 NFL draft, despite his outstanding collegiate football accomplishments. However, he was relieved once the San Antonio Spurs selected him for the NBA Summer League.

However, he was released after only three preseason games by the team. After he hoped to join the Italian squad Juvecaserta Basket at a later date. He withdrew, though, after the club failed to make it to Serie A.

He signed a two-way contract with the Chicago Bulls on July 25, 2017.

Ryan became the first player in NBA history to sign a two-way contract as a result. The athlete scored 8 points, 4 rebounds, and 8 assists in his first NBA game against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Furthermore, he spent the most of his time with the Windy City Bulls in the NBA G League, where he excelled. He scored 13.8 points per game, grabbed 5 rebounds, and dished out 8.6 assists.

In the 2018 NBA Summer League, he averaged 7.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, and four assists per game.

Ryan stayed with the Bulls for two more seasons before going to the Boston Celtics. Unfortunately, he was dismissed ten days later and signed with the Maine Celtics as an affiliate player.

He stayed with the Celtics for a few months, but saw very little action. He then signed with the New York Knicks in 2022, although he never played a game before being released at the end of January 2022.

The Celtics signed Arcidiacono to a new deal on January 31, 2022.
