While growing up in Hamilton, Shai did not make the St. Thomas More junior team in grade 9 and instead played for the school’s midget team.
He was voted team MVP and led his midget boys team to victory in the city tournament. After there, he attended Sir Allan MacNab Secondary School before enrolling in Chattanooga, Tennessee’s Hamilton Heights Christian Academy in 2015.
