He co-directed Jedara Bale (1968) with Dorai Raj under the name Dorai-Bhagavan, marking his official directing debut. They were also the first Kannada filmmakers to produce James Bond-styled films. The great majority of the flicks they directed after that were based on Kannada literature. The movie industry saw tremendous success with their films.
