Sonia Montejano began her career in law enforcement as a cop with the Los Angeles County Marshal Department. She was assigned to the enforcement of civil judgments there.

She went on to work in the Sheriff’s Department after it merged with the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department five years later. She was also promoted to Senior Deputy in the early 1990s and hired to work in the Court Services Division, where she supervised personnel and courthouse operations.

Sonia then spent the next six years at the Beverly Hills Courthouse, where she oversaw security planning and implementation for high-profile cases such as the trials of actresses Winona Ryder and Courtney Love.

After nearly two decades on the force, the real deputy decided to make a career change and work in the entertainment industry.

When producers of the Judge Joe Brown Court Show noticed her and offered her the position of bailiff on the CBS syndicated show, she became known as a Hollywood Bailiff. She was well-liked in the role of Madam Sonia, and she stayed on the JJB show for the next seven years, until it ended in 2013.

She also kept the peace and personified courtroom decorum as the bailiff on Hot Bench (a court show produced by Judge Judy) from 2014 to 2019.
