Professional Career of Stefan Everts

Stefan began his profession when he was seventeen years old. With Suzuki, he won his first Belgian Champion title in the 125cc category in 1990. In 1991, he competed in the 125cc World Championship and won his first title. When he was with the Suzuki squad, Stefan was the youngest Champion. After that, he moved up to the 250cc class and won his first Belgian Champion 250cc championship with Suzuki in 1993, followed by Honda in 1997 and 1998.

In the same 250cc category, he won World Championships with Kawasaki and Honda in 1993, 1995, and 1997. Stefan then moved up to the 500cc category, where he won the World Champion 500cc category for two years in a row with team Yamaha in 2001 and 2002. He was the first rider to win a world championship on each of Japan’s four motorcycles (Suzuki, Kawasaki, Honda, and Yamaha). Stefan won the World Championship ten times in a row from 2001 to 2006 (including MX1-GP), totaling ten World Championships. With Yamaha, he won the International Six Days Enduro Brasil in 2003.

Stefan Everts’ Post-Retirement Life

He retired from competitive riding in 2006. He was shortly promoted to director of the KTM factory team, where he was in charge of technical, mental, and physical training for the top racers. Stefan signed a two-year contract with an Austrian manufacturer in 2007. Later that year, Stefan chose to resume his riding career and competed in the world’s largest Enduro competition, which was held at Sweden’s Gotland Grand National.

However, he was unable to complete the race owing to an overheating problem caused by mud in the bike’s radiator. Then, in 2008, he attempted a second time at the Gotland Grand Nationals, but he wrecked at the conclusion of the race and was unable to complete it.

Malaria Case by Stefan Everts

He was in central Africa (the Democratic Republic of the Congo) in 2018 to take part in a motocross charity event for local children. In Lubumbashi, he was unfortunately bitten by a malaria mosquito. In early December, he was brought to the UZ Leuven’s ICU (intensive care unit) in a severe condition. He awoke from an induced coma on December 25. Stefan was allowed to begin his physical therapy towards the end of December 2018, as the treatment team believed his brain and other organs to be unaffected by the effects of the malaria he had contracted.

Stefan’s life had been hanging by a thread, according to the professor, when the managerial team brought him to UZ Leuven. Anything can happen at any time. But, by Zeus’ grace, he was regarded alive at Christmas as a Christmas present. The Champion made a partial recovery from the condition after a series of surgery.
