He is currently employed by the University of California, San Diego, as a part-time instructor. Also, He was appointed an honorary senior visiting fellow at Cambridge University in 2009. He has also served as a scientific advisor and member of advisory boards for numerous pharmaceutical companies, companies that provide medical information, and non-profit organizations during the past 35 years, including the state of California’s Medicaid drug usage committee. Additionally, he is a member of Genomind’s scientific advisory board, which deals with psychiatric genomics. He has produced more than 500 articles, book chapters, and abstracts for more than 1600 scientific presentations.

The best-selling and award-winning Stahl’s Essential Psychopharmacology, now in its fifth edition, and the Essential Psychopharmacology Prescriber’s Guide, now in its seventh edition, are among the 35 textbooks he has authored and edited. His passion is developing and disseminating educational materials on psychiatric and neurological conditions and treatments, with an emphasis on multimedia and the internet. He made a significant contribution to the study “Inadequate Mental Health Treatment in the US Army and at Fort Hood.” His duties included making sure the current system was appropriate and instructing those who cared for injured soldiers.
