Steve Competello Michalik, Thomasina Competello Michalik’s late husband, struggled with health issues throughout his bodybuilding career. His bodybuilding coach recommended him to retire from bodyweight lifting in the 1980s due to his steroid use.
Steve utilized steroids during bodybuilding competitions, which led to a heart attack, liver tumors the size of baseballs, and kidney illness. In 2011, he underwent kidney transplant surgery.
