On July 12, 1998, Sumit Antil was born to an Indian Hindu family in Khewda, Sonepat, India. His zodiac sign is Cancer. In his hometown, he completed his studies at a private school. However, little is known about his advanced schooling.

Career

Sumit was constantly practicing at the akhara with the main objective of becoming a wrestler. But his ambitions remained unfulfilled after he was injured in an accident at the age of 17. He was riding his bicycle when he collided with a tractor, losing a limb in the process.

Then he was devastated to realize that he would never wrestle again in his entire life. He did, however, want to take part in other sports. He asked Virender Dhanakar for assistance so that he may pursue his goal of becoming a shot putter. Dhanakar referred Sumit to legendary javelin instructor Naval Singh. During the conversation, Naval advised that Sumit become a javelin thrower.

Sumit was so dedicated to his sport that he never skipped a practice, no matter the time. He started competing in international tournaments after receiving extensive training. He represented India at the World Para Athletics Championships in 2019 and took home a silver medal. At that point, he made the decision to go to the 2020 Paralympics in Tokyo and purchased his own ticket.

He was highly anticipated by many Indians for the 2020 Paralympics. Fortunately, he has been able to live up to the public’s expectations. He broke the world record for the javelin throw in the finals on his sixth attempt, throwing it 68.55 meters. As a result, he helped India win the gold medal at the Paralympics. He shattered every previous record for the javelin throw, all of which he had really established himself. He was the second Indian, after Avani Lekhara, to win a gold medal for India in the Tokyo Paralympics.

In terms of his parents and siblings, Sumit lost his father, Ram Kumar Antil, when he was just seven years old.
