The 200 block of Blue Creek Drive in Harvest was the scene of a police call on Friday, August 6, 2021, early in the morning. Madison County authorities found Tate Buening, age 10, and Brian Buening, age 40, dead inside the Buenings’ Harvest house.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office initially acknowledges that the two victims passed away as a result of gunshot wounds. The official stated that after a family member requested assistance, HEMSI, Harvest Fire & Rescue, and Madison County Sheriff’s Office personnel arrived on the site.

At the Madison County Circuit Court a month prior, Tate’s mother, Kayla White, asked for an emergency protection order against Buening, claiming she was gravely worried about his safety because he was set to have a court-mandated visitation with Buening.

When Tate was under the care of his father, Brian Buening, his mother, Kayla, was worried for his safety. On August 6, she made contact with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office to ask how they were doing.

In court documents, Kayla stated that Brian suffered from PTSD, depression, “history of suicidal ideations with two failed suicide attempts,” alcoholism, and rage issues.

Currently, the case has been abandoned since Buening “carried out his threats and committed suicide and the minor.” White, though, is fighting for justice. Will League, White’s attorney, told a publication that the police put White in risk by letting her knock on the door of her ex, who is accused of having threatened to murder her a few days prior.
