Terry McAuliffe began his political career as a volunteer for Jimmy Carter’s re-election campaign. He was promoted to the position of national finance director. He did, however, start his business while he was young. When he was 14 years old, he launched McAuliffe Driveway Maintenance.

In 1985, he established Federal City National Bank, a local bank. Later, he rose through the ranks to become the bank’s youngest chairman. After the bank amalgamated with Credit International Bank in 1991, McAuliffe was made vice-chairman.

With the support of his wife, he purchased an estate from Resolution Trust Corporation. McAuliffe also bought American Heritage Homes, a struggling home builder. He has also worked at ZeniMax Media as a consultant.

As an angel investor, he has also invested in Global Crossing. McAuliffe has also worked for a holding firm called GreenTech Automotive. In 2017, the corporation, on the other hand, filed a fraud lawsuit against him.
