Jr. Hardaway was born in Alameda, California, on March 16, 1992. He is the older child of Tim Hardaway Sr., a former NBA player. His mother is Yolanda Adkins Hardaway.

He was born and lived in California for a while before moving to Florida with his family. As a result, he registered for and started attending Miami Palmetto High School.

Due to his frequent observation of his father participating in league games, young Tim developed an interest in the sport. Senior Tim took over as his home coach in 2003 after his father retired.

As a young player, Hardaway always made an effort to win over his father with his play. But because of his high standards, his father could occasionally be rather harsh during the practice sessions.

Tim Jr., now a feared NBA player, recalls that he briefly considered quitting basketball because of his father’s constant reprimands.

Over time, he did, however, develop the ability to handle his father’s harsh critiques and began performing well. In reality, the constructive criticism and advice he received from his father helped him hone his abilities.

His father frequently attended his high school games to watch him play. He now remembers how he used to be afraid of going there and meeting his father. Not because Sr. Hardaway didn’t want him there, but rather because he didn’t want any negative feedback.

But Yolanda, his mother, was always there for him. The athlete excelled in high school and received his diploma in 2010.

He joined the University of Michigan for additional study after graduating from high school.

Tim Hardaway Jr. | Education and Career High School

Miami Palmetto High School was where Tim Hardaway Jr. played high school basketball. After his family relocated to Miami when he was a child, he attended classes there.

During his high school years, he practiced and played basketball under the direction of numerous coaches. Hardaway even spent about a year attempting to make it in high school football.

He was destined to succeed in basketball, though. So, after doing well in his first year, he became friends with a number of basketball coaches, including John Beilein, the Michigan Wolverines’ then-head coach.

Additionally, he began going to Michigan’s Beilein Elite Camp during his junior year. His success in his senior year of high school as a result was rather amazing.

In his final season, he scored 31.7 points and grabbed 7.3 rebounds per game.

From his second year, the University of Michigan had already expressed interest in him and had been in touch. So, unsurprisingly, he decided to continue his academic career in college by enrolling in the Michigan Wolverines.

Tim Hardaway Jr.: Career in College

When Hardaway joined the Wolverines, the team was in desperate need of a shooting guard who could carry the load for the group flawlessly. Tim Jr. was an obvious pick because Manny Harris, their most dependable guard, had just left the squad for the NBA.

However, he was more skilled as a small forward than a guard; hence, he found it difficult to adjust at first.

After several poor performances, he eventually caught up and even received weekly awards.

In the inaugural season, he participated in 35 games and averaged 13.9 points and 3.8 rebounds. As a result, he was selected to play for the USA’s U-19 national basketball team at the FIBA U-19 World Championship.

He also participated in two additional college seasons with the Wolverines, both of which were more successful for him than his first. His ability to play the shooting guard position also significantly improved.

He made the decision to forego his senior year and enter the 2013 NBA draft after three productive seasons during which he won numerous awards.

Professional Career of Tim Hardaway Jr.

As the 28th choice in the first round of the 2013 NBA Draft, the New York Knicks selected Hardaway. As soon as the NBA Summer League ended, Hardaway signed with the Knicks and made an impression with his offensive prowess.

Despite it being his debut season, the team gave him adequate playing time, and as a result, he performed well. With an average of 10.2 points and 1.5 rebounds per game, he completed his rookie NBA season.

Tim continued to play with the Knicks for one more season, during which he sustained multiple wounds, including a concussion and back trouble.

He also missed a lot of games due to injury and competition from equally skilled shooting guards like J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert. Although he averaged 11.5 points per game in his debut season, he had better records after that year.

He was exchanged by the Knicks to the Atlanta Hawks in 2015. He did not get enough playing time because the squad already had several experienced athletes on it, including Justin Holiday, Kyle Korver, and others.

His first season with the Hawks was not particularly productive as a result. He did, however, have impressive stats with them the next season.

He signed a new contract with his former team, the Knicks, because he did not quite fit in with the Hawks. And he had a fairly successful 2017–18 season with the Knicks, and he remained with them for the following year as well.

But the Knicks chose to trade him to the Dallas Mavericks after he only played for them through the middle of the season. On January 31, 2019, he was traded to the Mavericks despite having a four-year contract.

He is still playing with the Mavericks and is having a good 2021–22 season.
