Due to injuries, Tad had to take a four-year hiatus. Tad was involved in a serious car accident in August of 2004. This accident occurred after his truck struck with a mountain. Tad’s life had been devastated by the accident. His left hand was broken, and his left leg was crushed. His passion was taken away by catastrophe. He hadn’t been able to walk for five months, so canoeing seemed a long way off. Tad didn’t canoe for seven months after the tragedy. He gradually healed and began returning to the river.

Timothy’s problems, however, did not end there. Tad cracked his L1 vertebra while running the Great Falls of the Potomac River. As a result, the canoeist was unable to walk for three months. Comeback of Timothy Alan Dennis

After a four-year hiatus, he returned in the summer of 2006. He competed in the US National Championship in August of the same year, finishing sixth. Tad finished third in the 2007 USA Canoe/Kayak National Team Trials the following spring. As a result, he earned a position on the US National Team for the third and last time at the men’s C1 level. In 2008, Tad finished third in the US Olympic Team Trials at the US National Whitewater Center, earning him his third position on the US National Team.
