Early Life and Education

She was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on April 26, 1970. Tionne Tense Watkins is her given name. Her father, James Watkins, and mother, Gayle Watkins, gave birth to her. Her parents were both musicians and vocalists, and they sang in a group together.

When Watkins was three years old, her parents split. Her family relocated from Des Moines to Atlanta, Georgia, when she was nine years old. Watkins is an African-American woman with American citizenship. When it comes to Tionne’s educational background, she has remained tight-lipped regarding the identities of the schools she attended.

Professional Life and Awards

Crystal Jones arranged auditions for a singing group and recruited Tionne Watkins and Lisa Lopes. Perri “Pebbles” Reid and Antonio “L.A.”  Reid, the head of LaFace Records, were impressed with the group’s performance. They signed in 1991 after Jones was replaced as Chilli by Rozonda Thomas. As TLC, Tionne Watkins recorded five albums – Ooooooohhh… TLC Tip (1992), CrazySexyCool (1994), FanMail (1999), 3D (2002), TLC Tip (2002).

Tionne Watkins attempted a solo career as well. Touch Me, My Getaway (2000), Champion (2013), and Dreams are some of her singles (2017: from audiobook A Sick Life). Tionne has been in the films Belly and Living Single, The Real Housewives of Atlanta, Days of Our Lives, Black Dynamite, and Lip Sync Battle as an actress. On January 1, 2013, she was cast in the reality TV show Totally T-Boz, which premiered. Watkins’ effort to record a solo album, reunite with Chilli, and raise her daughter Chase were all included in the four-episode series.

Tionne Watkins has also worked as a producer on the films CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story and ATL (2006), and on November 3, 1999, she released the semi-autobiographical poetry book Thoughts. She co-founded Chase’s Closet, a children’s boutique, with stylist Tara Brivic and ran it for several years. She was diagnosed with sickle cell anemia when she was young and has had therapy for it on a regular basis.

Tionne stated in October 2009 that she has been battling a potentially fatal brain tumor for the previous three years. She was diagnosed with a grape-sized acoustic neuroma on her vestibular nerve in March 2006. Her balance, weight, hearing, sight, and facial movement were all impaired, and she eventually had surgery. In 2006, she was nominated for a Black Movie Award for ‘ATL’ in the category of Outstanding Motion Picture. CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story earned this singer a Black Reel Award nomination in 2014.
