Tobi Amusan began her athletic career by earning the silver medal at the African Youth Championships in Warri in 2013 and the gold medal in the 100-meter hurdles at the African Junior Athletics Championships in Addis Abeba in 2015. In 2015, when she was eighteen years old and competing in her first All-Africa Games, she took home the gold in the 100-meter hurdles. After winning gold in the 100 mH and 200 m, she became the second athlete for the school to be named C-USA Female Track Athlete of the Year since UTEP joined C-USA. She ran a timing of 12.83 seconds to become the first hurdler to break the 13-second barrier, and she finished second in the 100-meter hurdles at the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
