Travis Kalanick

Uber has made millions of people’s lives easier. Travis Kalanick, the former CEO of ‘Transportation network company- Uber,’ is one of the two heads who conceptualized the idea of Uber and brought the service into existence.

Both business and relationships have ups and downs, but they both teach us something. It is difficult to hold on to things when you are at your lowest, dealing with situations and giving it your all!

Despite being one of the wealthiest people on the planet, Travis Kalanick was unable to maintain his relationship with his girlfriend. Was it his sluggish business that caused the duo’s breakup, or was it something else? Let us investigate.

Net worth of  Travis Kalanick

Travis Kalanick is a multi-billionaire.Uber turned him into a multi-billionaire with an enticing net worth of $ 6.3 billion, and we don’t need to look into his salary.

Travis Kalanick’s business failure, as well as a relationship tragedy!

As the saying goes,

‘It’s not as difficult to accomplish things as it is to keep what you’ve accomplished.’

A similar situation arose for Uber’s former CEO. Travis reportedly ended his relationship with this stunning woman, Gabi Holzwarth, who also happens to be a violinist.

After dating for over a year, the news of their breakup was all over the tabloids. The cause of the split is said to be Travis’s immense workload and the unavoidable loss of $1.2 billion in just the first half of 2016.

“Travis is currently under a lot of stress. It’s difficult for him to concentrate on a relationship.”

It’s never easy to experience such a loss in both your professional and personal life.

The couple met at a party hosted by Shervin Pishevar, a venture capitalist who has stakes in Uber and Airbnb. Pishevar hired Gabi to play for his event in 2015 after discovering Gabi’s talent for playing the violin on the streets of Palo Alto.

Travis witnessed both her talent and beauty at the same event, and they began dating soon after. They had been dating for about two years before splitting up in August 2016. Unfortunately, he was unable to make Gabi his wife.

Gabi Holzwarth’s melodious play can be found here.

The breakup wasn’t enough of a tragedy for him because he had to say goodbye to his mother for good.

Travis’ mother was killed in a boating accident.

According to reports, both his parents, mother Bonnie Kalanick and father Donald Kalanick, were on the boat when the accident occurred on May 26, 2017.

The boat they were riding in collided with a rock in Pine Flat Lake in the county’s east, killing Bonnie on the spot and injuring his father, Donald Kalanick.

The Fresno County Sheriff stated about the incident,

“Bonnie Kalanick died at the scene, and her husband sustained minor injuries while the boat sank.”

Here’s a picture of his parents.

However, a month after the tragic incident, while Travis was still trying to recover from his loss, he made his resignation official by stepping down from Uber’s CEO position in June 2017.

His departure was the result of constant pressure from Uber’s investors, who asked him to leave.

Earlier that day, five of Uber’s major investors demanded that the CEO resign immediately. One of the five investors was one of Uber’s largest shareholders, which has one of its partners, Bill Gurley, on the board of directors. He will, however, continue to serve on the board of directors.

Travis stated, referring to his resignation,

“I love Uber more than anything else in the world, and at this difficult time in my personal life, I have accepted the investors’ request to step aside so that Uber can focus on building rather than being distracted by another fight.”

Mr. Kalanick’s problems began to mount when the company was accused of sexual harassment by a former employee.

Susan Fowler, an engineer who claimed she was harassed by her immediate supervisor during her time at Uber, issued a statement.

“It was clear that he was attempting to persuade me to have sex with him, and it was so obviously inappropriate that I immediately took screenshots of these chat messages and reported him to HR. Upper management told me that he was a ‘high performer’ (i.e. received stellar performance reviews from his superiors) and that they would not feel comfortable punishing him for what was most likely an innocent mistake on his part.”

Following Travis’ departure from Uber, the company stated,

“We are committed to making driving with Uber better than ever in the next 180 days,” the company stated. “We know there’s a long road ahead of us, but we’re not going to stop until we get there.”

Hopefully, the company will not suffer any further losses because it is determined to move forward.

Prior to Gabi, he dated Angie You, with whom he shared a townhouse in San Francisco’s upper hills. The townhouse was dubbed “The Jam Pad,” and it even had its own Twitter account.

More on Uber’s former CEO Travis Kalanick:

Travis’ life may appear to be lavish now, but he has worked hard to achieve what he has.

As a teen, he went door-to-door for Cutco, selling knives. Kalanick entered the business world at the age of 18, co-founding Scour, an online file exchange service, with some UCLA classmates.

Before declaring bankruptcy in 2000, the file exchange was sued by the Motion Picture Association and the Recording Industry Association of America.

In 2007, his second company, Red Swoosh, a file-sharing company, which was sold to Akami in an all-stock deal valued at $ 18.7 million.

Kalanick struggled financially while running Red Swoosh, and he didn’t have enough money to cover his expenses and was still living under his parents’ roof.

With Uber’s success, he now lives in his own house in San Francisco.

He is enthusiastic about what he does, as evidenced by his quotes.

“Look, I’m a driven entrepreneur. Sometimes I’m like fire and brimstone. And so, because I’m so passionate about it, there are times when I’ll get too far into the weeds and the debate.”

Travis took the biggest step forward in 2009, when he collaborated with Garrett to launch the Uber app, which now connects passengers with drivers of vehicles for hire or ride-sharing all over the world.
