In terms of his professional career, Turk Farrell was a member of the National League teams Houston Colt.45s / Astros, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Philadelphia Phillies.

Before the 1953 season, the Philadelphia Phillies signed him as an amateur free agent. Beginning his career in Minor League Baseball (MLB), the 19-year-old played for the Class A Schenectady Blue Jays.

His record over the course of two years (1953–1954) was 18–18 with a 3.30 ERA. He was a pitcher for the Miami Marlins in 1956 (finishing 12-6 with a 2.50 ERA) and the Syracuse Chiefs in 1955 (going 12-12 with a 3.94 ERA).

The Phillies gave Farrell a late-season look in September 1956; he lost his one and only chance, but he set the stage for a 14-year major league career. He was one of the young Phillies pitchers known as the “Dalton Gang” for his late-night shenanigans in the late 1950s, along with Jim Owens and Jack Meyer.

With the Phillies in 1957, he appeared in 52 games out of the bullpen and finished 10-2 with 10 saves and a 2.38 ERA. At Jersey City Roosevelt Stadium, the final of the Dodgers’ fifteen home games was won by Farrell and the Phillies, 3-2 in twelve innings.

Later Career

In the 1961 MLB expansion draft, Farrell was chosen by the Houston Colt.45s. His 10–20 record was dismal, but he finished 1962 with the fourth-best ERA (3.02). Before spending nearly all of his time in relief with Philadelphia and Los Angeles, Farrell started as a starter in Houston.

Throughout his career, he has thrown in 590 games (134 starts), recorded a 106-111 win-loss record, 83 saves, and a 3.45 ERA. He received four selections (1958, 1962, 1964, and 1965) to the National League All-Star team throughout his career.

On September 19, 1969, he pitched in his final major league game for the Phillies against the Expos, losing 10–6. Additionally, in the opening game of a doubleheader at Parc Jarry, he gave up one hit and struck out one.

He would never pitch in the major leagues again, and not too long after, he would leave the country permanently. After relocating to England, Farrell worked and resided on an offshore oil rig in the North Sea, which is located near the British shoreline.
