Career

At St. Cecilia’s, a Catholic high school in Englewood, New Jersey, Lombardi started his coaching career in 1939.

He was already married and needed more money to support his family, so in addition to coaching, he also taught chemistry, Latin, and physics for an annual income of less than $1,000. Vince was given the opportunity to take over as head coach after Andy Palau, the previous one, left for St. Cecilia’s or another role at Fordham.
