Mitchell Stewart Mustain, famously known as Mitch Mustain, is an American-born former professional football player. Sadly, his professional football journey was short-lived, and he had to announce his retirement without much achievement.

Mitch aimed to enter the NFL like every young American football player. He enlisted for the 2011 draft, but no club wanted him, and as a result, he moved to football leagues other than the NFL.

Gary F. Mustain and Beck Campbell welcomed Mitch Mustain into the world on February 27, 1998 in Fayetteville, Arkansas, in the United States. Along with his younger brother Matthew, who was born two years later, Mitch grew up in Arkansas. Sadly, his father and mother’s poor relationship resulted in their divorce in 1992. Mitch and his brother moved live with their mother as a result.

Gary, their father, was ordered by the court to pay child support. Gary was detained and imprisoned in 2006 for neglecting to support their sons. Going back to their early years, Gary had a difficult time developing. Gary achieved academic and athletic success in spite of all obstacles.

He played football and baseball while attending Springdale High School in Springdale. He enrolled to the University of Arkansas to continue his education after graduation. However Mustain later changed schools and enrolled at the University of Southern California, where in 2010 he earned a bachelor’s degree in international relations.

High school & college career

In Arkansas, Mitch graduated from Southwest Junior High School and Springdale High School. He excelled at Springdale despite having already demonstrated his remarkable athletic prowess in his former school. After his senior year, Mustain received the Hall Award for National High School Player of the Year and was named Arkansas Mr. Football.

Numerous universities were interested in him because he was one of the best players in the state. He ultimately chose to enroll at the University of Arkansas and made the Razorbacks his team. While Mitch pitched well for his high school baseball team, he concentrated on football in college. Since Arkansas’ plans fell through, Mitch later played with the USC Trojans until his graduation from college in 2010.

Professional Career

Regrettably, Mitch did not perform particularly well throughout his time in college. As a result, he was passed over by NFL teams in the 2011 NFL Draft. He subsequently agreed to a 10-day deal with the CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He failed to convince them, and on June 10, 2011, they freed him.

After that sad incident, he returned to the United States and competed unsuccessfully for a number of AFL clubs, including Georgia Force, San Jose SaberCats, and San Antonio Talons, until 2014. He also briefly played minor league baseball in the interim.

For all football fans, witnessing Mitch Mustain’s odd demise as a player came as a bit of a surprise. As a true freshman starter not long after joining the Razorbacks, Mitch enjoyed an 8-0 record. That all changed, though, when Casey Dick, a sophomore, was selected by then-Razorbacks head coach Houston Nutt to start the team’s games as quarterback in November 2006.

Gus Malzahn, the coach of Mitch’s high school, was hired by Arkansas to serve as the offensive coordinator. Malzahn’s role was far smaller than Mitch had anticipated, thus he was unable to assist Mitch when Nutt benched him. As things deteriorated, Malzahn transferred to the University of Tulsa, and Mitch wished to do the same. The head coach Nutt, though, disputed it.

After the argument, Mitch was forced to transfe r to the University of Southern California to continue his academic career as Professor and was unable to mend fences. Mitch never understood why Nutt treated him that way while he was playing for Arkansas at the time and was obviously at his best.

Nutt noticed that Mitch lacked experience, therefore he passed him over for another player. A documentary titled The Identity Theft of Mitch Mustain was released in 2013, when Mitch had no chance of saving his faltering career. The documentary’s main subject is Mitch’s reasons for failing, which was directed by Matthew Wolffe.
