Furthermore, at the age of 18, Fraser signed a multi-album deal with Sony Music after a bidding war between labels. What to Do with Daylight, Fraser’s debut album, was released in late 2003 in New Zealand, where it debuted at No. 1 and went gold the same week.

The album went seven times platinum in New Zealand alone, selling over 105,000 copies. The album’s five singles all charted in New Zealand’s top twenty. Her album also topped the New Zealand Top 50 Albums chart for the entire year of 2004.

In Australia, the album was certified gold. Fraser visited her World Vision-sponsored children in Tanzania in 2005 before writing and preparing her follow-up album. Fraser’s song “Albertine” was inspired by a young genocide survivor (Albertine) she met in Rwanda.

The title track for her second album was chosen from this song. For this album, Fraser enlisted a new band of American session musicians who had previously worked with a variety of notable artists, both live and recorded.

In addition, Fraser and the band recorded the album in Los Angeles with producer Marshall Altman in 2006. The first single, “Deciphering Me,” reached No. 4 on the New Zealand singles chart in 2006.
