On August 21, 2000, Yusaku Kinoshita was born in Osaka, Japan. His mother practiced judo, and his father taught karate, therefore he grew up in a martial arts household. At the age of four, he began karate training. Later, he expanded his skill set to include boxing, kickboxing, and judo.
Yusaku was an innate athlete who thrived in a variety of sports, including basketball, track & field, and soccer. Along with this, he became passionate about video games, particularly fighting games, which encouraged him to seek an MMA career.

In November 2020, at the age of 20, Kinoshita made his debut in professional mixed martial arts. He competed in the Deep & Pancrase Osaka Tournament, a combined event between Japan’s two biggest mixed martial arts promotions. He went up against accomplished boxer Yuta Amifuji, who has won more than 20 bouts.
Since he controlled the fight from the beginning, Kinoshita showed no symptoms of nervousness. In just 52 seconds, he managed to take down Amifuji and apply a rear-naked choke, causing him to tap out. Also, in remarkable way, he got both his first victory and his first submission victory.
In the Japanese mixed martial arts scene, Kinoshita kept winning bouts while competing for organizations like Deep, Pancrase, and Rizin. He demonstrated his excellent striking ability by taking out opponents with elbows, knees, and punches.
Yusaka demonstrated his ability to submit opponents by using kimuras, arm triangles, and guillotines to end battles. His record stood at 6-1, all of his victories coming via first-round stoppage. Because of his captivating demeanor and amazing performances, he was given the moniker “Wonderboy.”

Kinoshita attracted the interest of the UFC, the top mixed martial arts organization in the world, who extended an invitation for him to participate in Dana White’s Contender Series, a reality show in which ambitious fighters battle for UFC contracts.
He seized the chance and took a plane to Las Vegas, Nevada, to take on the 10-2 record of Brazilian boxer Jose Henrique Souza. The August 30, 2022, bout was shown live on ESPN+. The bout featured back-and-forth attacks and takedowns between the two fighters.
A few strong shots were delivered by Kinoshita, but Souza parried them and answered with one of his own. Additionally, Souza made multiple submission attempts, but Kinoshita resisted them and got away. Both competitors were aiming for a finish as the bout entered its third and final round.
After throwing a series of punches, Kinoshita rocked Souza and knocked him to the ground. He continued to punch, and eventually the referee had to stop the fight. At 0:43 of the third round, Kinoshita submitted via TKO to secure his first-ever UFC victory as well as his first-ever knockout.
Due to Kinoshita’s outstanding performance, UFC president Dana White immediately gave him a contract. As the most recent competitor to sign a UFC contract through the Contender Series, Kinoshita is also the first fighter from Japan to do so.
