UFC Journey

Kinoshita attracted the interest of the UFC, the top mixed martial arts organization in the world, who extended an invitation for him to participate in Dana White’s Contender Series, a reality show in which ambitious fighters battle for UFC contracts.

He seized the chance and took a plane to Las Vegas, Nevada, to take on the 10-2 record of Brazilian boxer Jose Henrique Souza. The August 30, 2022, bout was shown live on ESPN+. The bout featured back-and-forth attacks and takedowns between the two fighters.

A few strong shots were delivered by Kinoshita, but Souza parried them and answered with one of his own. Additionally, Souza made multiple submission attempts, but Kinoshita resisted them and got away. Both competitors were aiming for a finish as the bout entered its third and final round.

After throwing a series of punches, Kinoshita rocked Souza and knocked him to the ground. He continued to punch, and eventually the referee had to stop the fight. At 0:43 of the third round, Kinoshita submitted via TKO to secure his first-ever UFC victory as well as his first-ever knockout.

Due to Kinoshita’s outstanding performance, UFC president Dana White immediately gave him a contract. As the most recent competitor to sign a UFC contract through the Contender Series, Kinoshita is also the first fighter from Japan to do so.
