From his first marriage to Teresa González, he had three children: José Manuel Figueroa González, Juan Sebastián Figueroa González, and Trigo de Jesús Figueroa González.

Joan Sebastian died on July 13, 2015, at the age of 64, from symptoms associated with bone cancer at his ranch in Cruz de la Sierra, Teacalco Guerrero, Mexico. His last resting place is in a Juliantla cemetery, next to his son Trigo, who also died tragically.

In July 2020, his family experienced a tragic and unprecedented turn of events when they began to worry about the security of his tomb and the possibility that his remains might be taken. As a result, more security was put in place to preserve his final resting place and pay tribute to him.
