Annie Mac was born on July 18, 1978, in Dublin, Ireland, and is 43 years old. She is an Irish national with a white ancestry. She went to Wesley College in Dublin and Queen’s University Belfast to study English literature.

Professional life and career

The DJ and radio personality from Ireland moved to Belfast to study English Literature at Queens University. During her time there, she visited Shine, a Belfast club where she was introduced to dance music and developed a lifelong passion for it.

Mac had developed an interest in radio by the time she finished her degree and obtained a Master’s degree in the discipline from Farnborough College of Technology. Mac then moved to Camden, London, to live with her brother. She worked with the student-run radio station SBN and had a DJ residency at Camden Underworld.

She began working as Steve Lamacq’s broadcast assistant at BBC Radio 1 when she was 21 years old, and three years later, she launched the Annie Mac show.

Mac’s career and reputation developed rapidly once she broke into the spotlight; by 2005, she had established Annie Mac Presents, her first branded club night at Fabric, which led to the launch of the Annie Mac Presents yearly compilation series in 2009.

Their first child arrived in May 2013, followed by their second in January 2017. Because both of her children are in school, she requires more time in the evening to visit them. But she is unable to do so due to her hectic job schedule. And it’s for this reason that she’s leaving Radio 1.
