Billy Morrissette’s Ex-Wife Maura Tierney: Where Did They Meet?
Morrissette, best known for his roles on Pump Up the Volume and Get a Clue, met the actress for the first time in the early 1990s. However, there are numerous theories about the circumstances surrounding their first meeting. According to some sources, Billy and Maura met through mutual friends who set them up on a blind date.
However, according to E! News, the actors met after they were both forced to leave the set of the show after it was canceled to be aired on television. For more information, the series was also supposed to star Ralph Macchio from The Karate Kid. Nonetheless, romance blossomed between the two right away.
Billy proposed to her not long after their brief courtship. Maura, who was head over heels in love with the Severed Ties actor at the time, gladly said yes. And, on February 1, 1993, the couple walked down the aisle in a private wedding ceremony in the presence of their closest friends, family, and celebrity connections. Maura and Billy, on the other hand, never had children.
Not to be forgotten, the couple collaborated on a project throughout their marriage. Billy wrote and directed the indie comedy Scotland, PA, which was released in 2001. Maura, who also produced the film, played Pat McBeth in the lead role.
When did Billy and Maura divorce?
Unfortunately, Billy and Maura were unable to keep their marriage vows and decided to divorce in March 2006 after a blissful thirteen-year marriage. In fact, it was the The Affair actress who filed for divorce in Los Angeles Supreme Court, citing irreconcilable differences.
Their divorce, however, was not finalized until July, four months later. The heartbreaking news is that Billy’s separation from a partner with whom he had spent more than a decade seemed to have left a huge void and ruined him.
Billy claimed in a 2009 interview that he was in such a large and crazy dark place. Not to mention, Morrissette moved back to New York after his divorce from Los Angeles, where he had lived for the previous twenty years. In New York, he purchased a $1.5 million loft in order to create a replica of Picasso’s Guernica in SoHo.
In addition, the Vegas Vacation star purchased a seven-bedroom house, which he sold in 2017 for $5.23 million. But, now that he lives in seclusion, Billy prefers to refer to himself as a former actor and director. Morrissette, for her part, has never married again, at least not yet.
