The Monday Night Football game has been rescheduled after a player collapses on the field.
The game between the Buffalo Bills and the Cincinnati Bengals was called off Monday night after Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field and was taken away in an ambulance.
The NFL’s commissioner, Roger Goodell, issued the following statement: “Hamlin was treated on the spot by club and independent medical personnel, as well as local paramedics. He was subsequently taken to a nearby hospital, where he is currently in critical condition.”
“Our thoughts are with Damar and the Buffalo Bills. We will provide more information as it becomes available,” the NFL said.
How is the Health Condition of Buffalo Bills’ Player Damar Hamlin?
“Everyone in our community, including the NFLPA, is praying for Damar Hamlin,” the NFL Players Association said in a statement. “We’ve spoken with Bills and Bengals players, as well as the NFL. The only thing that matters right now is Damar’s health and safety.”
After colliding with Bengals receiver Tee Higgins, Hamlin, 24, slumped in the first quarter. Hamlin rose straight up and took a step forward after finishing a tackle on Higgins before halting and slumping backwards.
Bills players immediately indicated to the sidelines for assistance from their training staff. Hamlin was down for around 10 minutes, with medical personnel seeming to give him CPR before removing him from the field.
Both teams’ players gathered around him, both looking upset. As he was being carried away, the Bills squad united in a group prayer.
The game’s resumption date has not been confirmed.
Hamlin is in his second NFL season. He attended the University of Pittsburgh during his NCAA football career.
