In the sixth round, though, Ortiz came into life when his thunderous left hand smacked Martin in the face. He came into the battle on a seven-fight knockout streak and won by the third knockdown rule, knocking Manswell down three times in round three to force the stoppage. He defended his championship on February 28, 2015, at the Celebrity Theater in Phoenix, Arizona, against former Brazilian heavyweight champion Raphael Zumbano Love (35-9-1, 28 KOs), winning by TKO in the 10th and last round with a minute remaining. In a scheduled 10-round fight on September 25th at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama, he made his fourth and last defense of his WBO–NABO title against Mexican WBO Latino heavyweight champion Vicente Sandez (15-4, 10 KOs).

According to CompuBox statistics, Charles landed 203 of his 621 thrown punches (33%), while Kownacki landed 242 of his 729 thrown punches (33 percent ). The bout, which kicked off Showtime’s programming, drew an average of 395,000 viewers and a peak of 503,000.
