Chris McKendry

I’m sure every sports fan has seen ESPN’s SportsCenter. Yes, I’m referring to Chris McKendry, a long-time SportsCenter fixture. She has finally decided to focus on tennis hosting after 20 years of service.

ESPN and Chris McKendry reached an arrangement in which McKendry will focus on tennis, her favorite sport. Chris began SportsCenter on July 27, 1996, and has been a host ever since. That is a lot of time. She also hosted a number of live events, including the Little League World Series. McKendry, in fact, was a division I tennis player at Drexel University.

Chris’s final farewell to ESPN’s Sportscenter:

Chris McKendry, “I made my SportsCenter debut on July 27, 1996,” McKendry recalled to ESPN. “A recently hired reporter was in Bristol, and I was merely filling in. I never went anywhere. I found myself in the company of people whose abilities, personalities, and reputations initially terrified me, only to learn that I had discovered what would be my home for nearly 20 years.

“However, when ESPN first sent me to the Australian Open in 2010, I knew I was working for my future. I’ve made the decision that the future is today. Wimbledon is one of the sports’ most recognizable competitions and venues, and it’s where I’ll go next. Because of the seat, I occupied on SportsCenter, I have a seat there. I will be eternally grateful for that.”

Chris’s final Sportscenter appearance aired on March 31, 2016. It also contained a special section about Chris McKendry’s long tenure on the show. She will be a grand slam host, hosting the Australian Open in January and the US Open in late July each year.

“Chris instantaneously and easily became a member of the traveling roadshow that is the ESPN tennis family,” said Jamie Reynolds, vice president of production at ESPN. “Her professionalism, dedication, personality, and lifetime passion of tennis elevate our telecasts, and we all look forward to having her as part of the team in the future.”

McKendry has signed a contract with ESPN!

Chris McKendry has negotiated an arrangement with ESPN in which the former SportsCenter anchor will focus on tennis and will continue to work for ESPN, including coverage of three of the sport’s Major tournaments — the Australian, US, and Wimbledon Opens.

Chris McKendry stated in an interview with Tennis Snow:

“This change has piqued my interest. It hit me when I was given the Australian Open in January of 2010: this is the next stage in my career. To be more than just an anchor, but also a host. It’s a lot of fun to go to these large events. Many people have informed me that it’s one of those genies you can’t put back in the bottle. When you complete a Grand Slam event, it’s difficult not to want to do it again. I just kept working at it, hoping that one day I’d be able to make the shift to a full-time position.

I’m overjoyed; it’s something I’ve planned and worked towards. That being said, the day before my last SportsCenter, I went into the Bristol studios and realized how many terrific individuals I’m probably never going to see or work with again. Never say never, but a lot of the tennis commentators I know so well—like, 10 minutes before you phoned, I was catching up with Mary Joe (Fernandez)—we’re friends, close friends. Because of SportsCenter, I’ve made a lot of analyst friends in every sport. As a result, it was emotional. It was more emotional than I had anticipated on the final day, but it had been 20 years of my life. Now that my final SportsCenter is over, I’m excited to move on “.

What about your married life, your husband, and your children?

Chris McKendry has a wife. She is, in fact, married to Eduardo Andrade. After a long season of dating, the couple married. They have two kids. Eduardo is the president of the Westport Library and the head coach of the Westport Little League. Since 2008, Chris and her husband, Eduardo, have been involved with little league parents.

I had a feeling Sharapova wouldn’t retire!

According to ESPN’s Chris McKendry, Maria Sharapova’s big announcement will most likely not be retirement. Sharapova, a five-time Grand Slam champion, stated in March 2016 that she has “big news.”

McKendry appeared on Sports Center with Jay Crawford on ESPN. When speaking with Jay Crawford, McKendry stated: “It might not even be a retirement announcement. We will not have two retirements today.”

Crawford responded, saying:

“Not at all. It doesn’t appear to be the case.”

Finally, in a March news conference in Los Angeles, five-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova revealed that she had tested positive for Meldonium. In 2016, that drug was added to the World Anti-Doping Agency’s list of prohibited substances.
