Together with his friend Jerry Lilienfield, Ed Snider launched the somewhat successful Edge Ltd. in the 1960s. They finally shut down the business, enabling Snider to partner with builder Jerry Wolman and Snider’s brother-in-law Earl Foreman’s lawyer to buy the Philadelphia Eagles in 1964. Snider eventually held the positions of vice president and treasurer, managing day-to-day activities for the Eagles, and was granted the chance to purchase a 7% interest in the organization. Similar to that, on February 8, 1966, the NHL gave Philadelphia a conditional franchise that would later take the name Philadelphia Flyers and debut in 1967.

In the summer of 1967, Snider and Wolman dissolved their business partnership and traded some of their assets. Wolman became the sole owner of the Spectrum, while Snider became the Flyers’ primary owner. Snider started or bought a number of companies over his career, most notably WIP, the first all-sports radio station, and PRISM, a regional premium TV channel. Snider privately funded the CoreStates Center, a new arena, to retain the Flyers and 76ers in Philadelphia despite a protracted legal dispute with 76ers owner Harold Katz, the city of Philadelphia, and the city of Camden, New Jersey (now the Wells Fargo Center).

Later, Snider became a significant investor in the Foxwoods slots casino that was envisioned for the waterfront of Philadelphia in 2005.
