Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin, the second person to set foot on the moon after crewmate Neil Armstrong in 1969, married his “longtime love” on Friday, his 93rd birthday.

On Twitter, the former astronaut announced his wedding.

“On my 93rd birthday & the day I will also be honored by Living Legends of Aviation I am pleased to announce that my longtime love Dr. Anca Faur & I have tied the knot,” Aldrin wrote. “We were joined in holy matrimony in a small private ceremony in Los Angeles & are as excited as eloping teenagers.”

He shared two photos, one of himself in a tuxedo and the other of Faur in a long-sleeved glittering gown.

In another Friday tweet, Aldin thanked fans for their birthday wishes. “It means a lot to me, and I hope to continue serving a greater cause for many more solar revolutions,” he wrote.

Mission commander Neil Armstrong, lunar module pilot Astronaut Buzz Aldrin, and command module pilot Michael Collins launched Apollo 11 on a nearly 250,000-mile journey to the moon in July 1969. They arrived at their destination four days later.

Armstrong spent two hours and 32 minutes on the moon’s surface. And Edwin Buzz Aldrin followed him, spent about 15 minutes less.

Before returning to the spacecraft, the two astronauts raised an American flag, scooped up moon rocks, and set up scientific experiments. They also communicated with President Richard Nixon from the Oval Office via radio.

All three astronauts were greeted as heroes when they returned home.
