George and Elizabeth Joan Steinbrenner gave birth to Hank Steinbrenner. Hank was named after his grandfather, Henry George Steinbrenner II, who made his fortune in the shipping industry.

His siblings included two sisters, Jessica Steinbrenner and Jennifer Steinbrenner-Swindal, as well as a younger brother, Hal. The Yankees’ general partners are all three of them. Hal is the chairman and CEO of Steinbrenner Hotel Properties, and he succeeded his father as chairman of the Yankees in 2008. After leaving the New York Yankees in the 1990s, Hank ran Kinsman Stable, the Steinbrenner-owned horse stable in Ocala, Florida. She was also a soccer coach at Vanguard High School in Ocala at the time. In addition, in 1985, he  appointed vice president and director of Bay Farms Corporation.

Later that year, he became the chairman of Minch Transit Company, and in 1990, his named was vice president of the Mid-Florida Hotels Corporation. He joined forces with Gwynn Racing to field a car in the National Hot Rod Association in 2000.

Due to failing health, George has delegated most day-to-day control of the New York Yankees to Hal and Hank, with Hank serving until his death in 2020.
