In 1974, Jigna Vora was born in the Ghatkopar district of Mumbai. She is fifty-nine years old. At the University of Mumbai-affiliated DG Ruparel College, she pursued her legal education. She also has a diploma from the K. J. Somaiya Institute of Management in Mumbai in public communications. Her interest in criminal reporting at K. J. Somaiya was piqued by her tutor, Velly Thevar, a renowned crime reporter for The Times of India. In 1998, she got married and moved to Bharuch, Gujarat. Following her divorce from her husband in 2004, she took her four-year-old child back to her maternal home in Garodia Nagar, Ghatkopar. She made the decision to become a single mother of her son and pursue a career in the media.

In the six years that followed, she also worked her way up from rookie reporter to deputy chief of bureau for an English broadsheet, covering crimes from all angles. In 2006, Jigna also started working for the Mumbai Mirror as a court reporter, covering the sessions court in Kala Ghoda, Mumbai.
