John Gibbons played 18 MLB games as a catcher with the New York Mets in 1984 and 1986. In 50 at-bats, he hit.220 with one home run and two RBIs, but he also struck out 16 times. Furthermore, injuries took their toll on him, forcing him to quit as a player in 1990.
He began his coaching career with the Mets in 1990 as a minor league roving catcher teacher.
