Justin Peters

Justin Peters is a former Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender who spent the most of his career with the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes (NHL). At the 2018 Winter Olympics, the Canadian player made his Olympic debut and helped the Canadian Team win bronze. It was his first international tournament, and he went all out to make sure he didn’t leave empty-handed. Ice hockey has occupied Justin’s life for the past 30 years. At the age of four, the player began playing hockey. There has been no turning back since then.

With 30 wins, he was rated second in the OHL goalkeeper standings and was even selected for the 2004 Champions Hockey League (CHL) Top Prospects Game. With Team Ontario, he won a bronze medal at the 2003 Under-17 Canada Games.

A Professional Life

Hurricanes Caroline

In 2004, Justin Peters made his professional debut with the Carolina Hurricanes. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Justin, who had always wished to play in the NHL, but it only lasted a short time. Finally, Justin was assigned to the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League (AHL). Justin began his professional career in 2006-07 with the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League, despite being picked in the NHL entry draft (AHL).

It was a huge letdown for Justin, which could explain why he struggled in the league. To make matters worse, in 2007-08, Justin was demoted to the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). Based on his success, he was promoted to River acts for the 2008-09 season. Justin was once again giving his all for the Albany River Rats. But, after six years, Justin was finally able to return to the place where he deserved to be. Justin was called up by the Caroline Hurricanes in 2010 to fill up for an injured player.

On July 1, 2015, Peters signed a two-year contract with the Washington Capitals. He appeared in 12 games for the Washington Capitals, winning three of them. He made 259 saves. Justin, on the other hand, considered leaving the squad before his contract expired.

Other groups

On July 1, 2016, Justin signed a new deal with the Arizona Coyotes. He began his career with the Tucson Roadrunner, the Coyotes’ AHL affiliate. However, after one of the Coyotes’ players was injured, Justin was called up to play three games with the Coyotes in the NHL. On February 1, 2017, the Dallas Stars acquired Justin Peters and his colleague Justin Hache in exchange for Brendan Ranford and Branden Troock.

As a result, Peters has signed new contracts with Latvian team Dinamo Riga of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) and German club Kölner Haie of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL). In 2018-19, he played for Bili Tygri Liberec and BK Mlada Boleslav in the Czech Extraliga. After being hired as a goaltender coach by the Belleville Senators in 2021, he finished his professional career.

World Championships in 2014

Justin Peters has been added to Canada’s roster for the 2014 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship as the 21st player. Out of three goaltenders enrolled for the event, he was one of them. Justin Peters did not participate in the event because he was the third goalkeeper.

Winter Olympics in 2018

Justin Peters has been named to the Canadian National Hockey Team, which will compete in the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Based on the 2015 IIHF World Ranking, Canada qualified for the 2018 Winter Olympics. Following a draw game, both Team Canada and Team Czech Republic advanced to the Quarterfinals. Both countries were eliminated in the semi-finals, and the bronze medal game was won by Team Canada. As a result, Team Canada won the bronze medal at the Olympic Games.

Retirement | Justin Peters

The Belleville Senators offered Justin Peters the post as goaltender coach on February 5, 2021. Peters was thinking about retiring, and the offer seemed like the perfect opportunity for him. The COVID outbreak, he added, was a big influence in his decision. Originally, he planned to retire after the 2020/21 season, but due to the pandemic, the games were postponed. His hockey career appeared to be in risk, and he sought to pursue other hobbies. Furthermore, Peters was aware that his retirement was nearing and was considering coaching.

Peters stated his excitement for his new coaching position. He believes that this is an excellent opportunity for him to share his years of experience and knowledge with the other players. Peters is currently employed by Troy Mann, who was his coach during his playing days. Despite his status as a rookie coach, Peters claims that he is given every opportunity to make decisions, express his thoughts, and feel like a complete member of the coaching staff.
