Tristán won his first world skating title, and the first for his country, in the 5,000-meter event at the World Championship in Bello, Antioquia. This also came after winning two more Pan-American titles, an Ibero-American Championship in Argentina, and two third-place finishes in world championships in Italy and New Zealand.
