He became the club’s youngest-ever player when, in Round 18, 1992, he made his senior debut for the Brisbane Bears against Fitzroy at Princes Park in Melbourne.
Although he was small and skilled, he put a lot of effort into maximizing his physical attributes. He was among the most successful competitors by 1996, and at the end of the campaign, he and James Hird shared the Brownlow Medal, the sport’s highest individual accolade.
There was speculation that Voss would soon join the Brisbane Lions coaching staff alongside Leigh Matthews or transition into a senior position after he announced his retirement following the 2006 season. Voss instead became a member of Channel 10’s sports commentary team.
At Potchefstroom’s North West Cricket Stadium, Voss led Australia’s AIS Under 17 squad to victory over South Africa’s national Australian rules football team.
