Pat rose to prominence after joining the radio station WEDC, where he worked as a newscaster from 12 p.m. to 6 a.m. – he was still in college at the time – and was drafted into the US Army, where he served in Vietnam. Pat worked at radio station WSM in the early 1970s before joining the KNBC-TV network in 1977 as their weatherman.

In 1982, he was cast in a brief role as a newscaster in the comedy film “Airplane II: The Sequel,” starring Robert Hays, and the following year, he played Kevin Hathaway in the soap opera “Days of Our Lives.”

From 1984 to 1989, he hosted the game show “Super Password,” then on January 9, 1989, he began presenting a late-night chat show on CBS, which lasted until April 13, 1990. Pat voiced a character in the animated children’s series “Rugrats” in 1993, and for the next ten years he hosted various shows such as “Live with Regis and Kelly” (substitute host) and “Pat Sajak Weekend” – in 2002, he began hosting the radio sports talk-show “The Pat Sajak Baseball,” which he hosted until 2006.

He also makes puzzle games, the most popular of which is “Lucky Letters,” which was released in 2007. Pat began writing for the conservative editorial magazine “National Review” in 2010, and he has also contributed to the website Ricochet.com.

Pat had surgery to remove an intestinal obstruction on November 8, 2019, and was out of work until December 5, 2019, when Vanna White presented “Wheel of Fortune.”
