Princess Mako

Princess Mako is the first child and eldest daughter of Prince Fumihito and Princess Kiko, and a former member of the Japanese royal family. She is the niece of Emperor Naruhito and the oldest granddaughter of Emperor Emeritus Akihito and Empress Emerita Michiko. She married lawyer Kei Komuro on October 26, 2021. As required by Imperial Household Law, she relinquished her imperial title and left the imperial family as a result of her marriage.

Childhood

On October 23, 1991, she was born at the Imperial Household Agency Hospital at Tokyo Imperial Palace in Chiyoda, Tokyo. Her younger sister is Princess Kako, and her younger brother is Prince Hisahito. She went to the Gakushin School for Primary, Junior, and Senior High School. She studied English at University College Dublin in July and August of 2010. (UCD). She then had an informal meeting with Ireland’s President, Mary McAleese, and traveled to Northern Ireland. Komuro graduated from the International Christian University in Mitaka, Tokyo, with a bachelor’s degree in Art and Cultural Heritage on March 26, 2014.

Career

  • Mako reached the age of majority in 2011, and on October 23, 2011, he was awarded the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Precious Crown. Since then, she has been attending formal functions as an adult member of the Imperial Family.
