Savannah Guthrie left the “Today” show in the middle of the broadcast Tuesday, citing her co-anchor Hoda Kotb’s mysterious absence.
Savannah Guthrie, 51, began hosting the NBC morning show at 7 a.m. ET, but she quickly sparked concern among viewers when she did not return after a commercial break around 7:30.
“3rd Hour” co-host Sheinelle Jones, who was filling in for Kotb, then shared an update on Guthrie’s health shortly before 9 a.m. ET.
“It’s been a fascinating morning for us. Savannah, as previously stated, left early. “She wasn’t feeling well, so she took a COVID test, which came back positive,” Jones, 44, said alongside Al Roker and Carson Daly.
Jones emphasized that Guthrie “rushed home to rest up” as soon as the test results were returned.
“Savannah, we adore you. “I wish you a speedy recovery,” she said.

Guthrie is fighting COVID-19 for the third time, having contracted the virus in January 2022 and May 2022.
She didn’t post anything on social media on Tuesday because she gave up Instagram for Lent.
The hosts of “Today” did not say when Guthrie would return or who would take her place while she is away.
Because of Guthrie’s illness, the show is now missing both of its main anchors.
Kotb, 58, has been absent from “Today” and “Today with Hoda and Jenna” for over a week.
Her last live performance was on Friday, February 17.
Neither Kotb nor NBC have commented on her absence, but fans are concerned about her unusually long absence, especially since Kotb has been posting several inspirational quotes on Instagram over the last week.
