Barb, Earl, and Chuck are his other siblings. Since 1965, his family has owned a 40-acre piece of land in rural Gibson, Wisconsin, where they run a salvage yard.

They also claimed that Steven Avery poured oil and gas on the bonfire in order to burn the cat. This kept him imprisoned until August 1983. Following this incident, Steven Avery stated that he committed these acts when he was very young and was exposed to people who were a negative influence on him.

Steven Avery pulled over his cousin’s car in January 1982, pointed a gun at her, and threatened to kill them. He justified his actions by claiming that he did it to prevent her from spreading false rumours about him masturbating in public. Wrongful Attempted Sexual Assault Conviction

Penny Beernsten, a woman from Michigan, was sexually molested and savagely attacked while jogging on a beach in 1985. She later chose Avery as her assailant from the photo lineup. Avery was 40 miles away from the crime scene shortly after the attack, and he had 16 eyewitnesses to back up his alibi. All of this happened during his deaf year, and he was found guilty and sentenced to 32 years in prison.

Avery was exonerated by DNA testing, which established that he was not the attacker but Gregory Allen, after serving 18 years and proclaiming his innocence throughout. He was released on September 11, 2003, and then sued Manitowoc County and the former sheriff, Thomas Kocourek. He was demanding $ 36 million in damages, but after being charged with murder, he only received $ 400,000.

Teresa Halbach, a photographer had a meeting with Avery at his home on October 31, 2005, but she was never seen again. Her car was discovered at a salvage yard, with bloodstains matching Steven’s DNA. In November, he was arrested and accused with murder and sexual assault. Brendan Dassey, his nephew, admitted a year later that he assisted Avery in killing her and disposing of her body.
