What Made Her Become “Steak”

Rachael claimed that her nickname “Steak” originated from her love of savory foods and a gift from her mother. She had a savory tooth, so her relatives started sending her Omaha steak out of concern that she could go hungry.

Rachael had to call people to her porch to help her make a dent in her backstock because her relatives used to send enormous amounts for a person that they were stacking in her house. She was referred to as “that girl with steak” as a result, then being renamed “that steak girl” and finally just “steak.”

Despite this, she continued to enjoy red meat, but not chicken. She thus started her blog, “Steaktooth,” in 2005. And so, she earned the nickname “Steak.” This is something she has stated a lot in interviews. She stated in an interview with Puss Puss magazine:

My 300-year-old Tumblr was called ‘Steaktooth,’ and I think that’s where a lot of my following came from. When I started engaging more, versus just flooding people with reblogged images, I started answering the ‘asks’ on there and out of nowhere I had an advice column. That’s when Rachael and ‘Steak’ became one. People always ask me what I prefer to be called and I think it’s a mix of both.
