Matt Weiss was an assistant coach at Smyrna High School in 2003 and 2004, where he helped launch a tutoring program that assisted student-athletes in gaining NCAA eligibility.

Later, in 2007, he began coaching as an offensive assistant at Western Michigan, working with the team’s quarterbacks and wide receivers. He then worked as an offensive quality control coach at Stanford University for two seasons under head coach Jim Harbaugh. Weiss was a member of the Stanford coaching staff that helped lead the team to a 12-1 record and an Orange Bowl victory in 2010.

After graduating from Stanford, he worked as the wide receivers coach at Buffalo for a season before returning to Stanford as the quarterbacks coach in 2012. He was named the team’s passing game coordinator in 2014, and he assisted in leading the team to two more Pac-12 titles and a Rose Bowl victory.

He joined the Baltimore Ravens as an offensive assistant in 2017 and worked with the team’s quarterbacks. In 2019, he was promoted to quarterbacks coach and was a member of the coaching staff that helped lead the Ravens to a playoff appearance that year.

Weiss joined the University of Michigan coaching staff in 2021 as the team’s quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator. In 2022, he was promoted to offensive coordinator. In December 2022, he was placed on leave while university police investigated computer access crimes. Weiss was fired by the University on January 20, 2023.
