Following a report in The Washington Post alleging that Luna had misrepresented her background, Republican Representative Anna Paulina Luna has drawn comparisons to her GOP colleague Representative George Santos.

Anna Paulina Luna, a first-term representative elected in November, has categorically denied the newspaper’s allegations and stated on Friday that her attorneys have demanded a correction and have threatened legal action.

Some social media users compared Luna to Santos, who has been the subject of criticism and calls for his resignation following allegations that he lied about much of his personal history, including his education, employment history, and claim to be the “grandson of Holocaust refugees.”

While Santos has been heavily chastised, not everyone who commented on The Washington Post’s story agreed that the comparison between Luna and Santos was fair.

“Do we have ANOTHER George Santos in Congress?” tweeted lawyer and founder of Main Street Law, Tristan Snell, sharing allegations made in the Post‘s story.

“Rep. Anna Paulina Luna has more than a whiff of George Santos about her, right down to dubious claims of being Jewish (her grandfather, it turns out, was actually a soldier for Nazi Germany,” journalist Aaron Rupar tweeted.

According to the Washington Post, Luna’s grandfather, Heinrich Mayerhofer, served in the German army during Nazi rule in the 1940s.

While many social media users compared Luna to Santos, some argued that the comparison was incorrect.

Em Steck, a CNN KFILE writer and researcher, tweeted: “Luna is not a serial liar; she has never been accused or charged with a crime; and she has never used mass tragedies to advance a compelling life story. She embellished parts of her life story, but nothing compares to what Santos has allegedly done. It is incorrect to compare.”

Later, Steck tweeted: “When Santos’ lies and scandals pile up, I think it’s intellectually dishonest to say the two are the same. Luna is more in the camp of politicians who have been caught embellishing their life stories.”

“This reads less like another Santos and more like someone with a troubled childhood trying to find their identity, in some cases perhaps on tenuous grounds,” The New Republic’s Matt Ford tweeted.

Representative Luna told Newsweek on Saturday, “The fact that people were so quick to jump to conclusions about my life is alarming and highly insulting.”

“As you can see from what we presented to Fox and the numerous retractions already issued by the WAPO, clearly they were not forthright in their reporting and are now backtracking,” she continued.

“I’ve seen a lot, and comparing myself to George Santos is incorrect, and I’m sure Mr. Santos would agree. I know that not all journalists are bad, but WAPO did not help the professional industry, and Elon Musk agreed this morning “Luna went on to mention a tweet sent by Twitter’s owner on Saturday.

“WaPo requires a thorough cleaning,” Musk said.

“As I’ve said before, and as the Washington Post has clearly demonstrated, anyone who is a conservative minority is a threat to Leftist control,” Luna told Fox News Digital on Friday.

“They can try to discredit me, but unfortunately for them, the facts completely disprove their story,” she said.

On Friday, Luna tweeted: “The receipts have arrived. My attorney has sent letters to the Washington Post and Salon requesting corrections or we will sue. We are also sending to Vanity Fair, Business Insider, Yahoo News, The Independent, and any other publication that publishes false information.”

The Republican campaign has also stated that they believe the article was racially charged because it implied that Luna embraced her Hispanic heritage as part of her campaign.

The Washington Post has corrected one section of the article that incorrectly stated Luna had registered as a Democrat in Washington state, but the rest of the reporting was overseen by the newspaper’s vice president of communications, Shani George, on Friday.

Luna’s roommate in Missouri was not the only person mentioned in a police report about a break-in at their apartment in 2010, but she was the only person police interviewed about the incident, according to the newspaper.
