Bobby was reared as an only child in Manhattan, New York City, by his parents Bill Flay and Dorothy Barbara McGuirk — Bobby was eight years old when he asked his father to purchase him an Easy-Bake Oven, and despite his father’s initial reluctance, he eventually got it.

Bobby dropped out of school at the age of 17 to pursue a profession as a chef.
